Case study
Solar PV, battery storage and heat pump installation
When homeowners Kate and Dave made the decision to move away from fossil fuels and to a more sustainable energy system, they wanted a company that could handle solar and heating under one roof rather than juggling separate contractors for each.
That search led them to Evergreen Renewables.
For this project, we designed and installed a complete system combining a 6.05kW solar PV array, battery storage and a Samsung heat pump, giving their home an integrated setup for power and heating.

Solar PV and battery storage
The solar side of the project centred on 13 Aiko Energy 465W panels, chosen for their high efficiency across a range of weather conditions. Paired with a SigenStor EC 5.0SP hybrid inverter, the system was built to move seamlessly between generating solar power and drawing on stored battery capacity, giving the household far greater control over how and when they use energy.
The storage comes from two SigenStor BAT 10.0 batteries, providing 20kWh of capacity between them. In practice, this means the household can bank power generated during daylight hours and use it through the evening and overnight, reducing dependence on grid electricity and adding a layer of backup resilience.
An EDDI‑16A1P02H unit rounds out the system by diverting any surplus solar energy towards heating water, squeezing extra value from every unit generated.
System summary
- 13 × Aiko Energy 465W solar panels (AIKO‑A465‑MAH54Mb/2S)
- 1 × SigenStor EC 5.0SP hybrid inverter
- 2 × SigenStor BAT 10.0 batteries (20kWh total storage)
- 1 × EDDI‑16A1P02H solar diverter for water heating

Heat pump installation
Alongside the solar delivery, Evergreen installed a Samsung Mono R290 8kW air‑to‑water heat pump, replacing the previous heating setup with a low‑carbon alternative built for long‑term reliability. The R290 refrigerant used in the system has a low global warming potential, allowing it to deliver strong heating performance with a smaller environmental footprint.
To support the new heat pump, the team fitted a Telford 250L/50L pre‑plumbed cylinder designed specifically for heat pump systems, along with a domestic hot water return loop and a bronze circulation pump to reduce waiting time at the taps.
Getting the heating distribution right was just as important as the heat source itself: four new radiators were installed, two of which replaced undersized units that were holding back performance elsewhere in the house, while two more were added to balance heat distribution across the property. The remaining six existing radiators were assessed and retained, working alongside the new additions without any loss of efficiency.
System summary
- 1 × Samsung Mono R290 8kW air‑to‑water heat pump
- Telford 250L/50L pre‑plumbed cylinder (Samsung‑ready, with buffer)
- Domestic hot water return loop with bronze circulation pump
- 4 new radiators installed, 2 replacing undersized units and 2 added for balance
- 6 existing radiators retained

What the clients said
“When we first considered Solar energy, we were looking for a company that provides both Heat Pump and Solar PV together. Evergreen Renewables was recommended. From our first meeting with Ian and Paul to completion with a fantastic team, we couldn't have wished for a better experience. They respected our home as if it were their own, and no questions we asked were considered too stupid. We will recommend them to anyone looking for renewables. Thank you to a great team!”
