The versatility of GSHPs: it can also cool your home!

While the benefits of a Ground Source Heat Pump as an environmentally-friendly heating method have been well documented on these pages—from the long-term financial gains and its low-carbon emissions—we’ve not talked too much about the system’s in-built versatility.

Indeed, while a GSHP will do a fantastic job of heating your home, it’s also a much more attractive cooling alternative than a standard air conditioning unit.

From an economical perspective, an air conditioner can be an unsatisfactory proposition. Not only are installation costs considerable, running it through the warmer months will also pile a sizable load on your annual energy bills.

Meanwhile, in terms of efficiency, the reasons for investing in a conventional approach just don’t stack up. When the sun is out and temperatures are rising outside, the inside of your home can become stiflingly hot. And, if you need to cool your indoor space, the outside temperature will be even hotter, meaning extra energy needs to be used to drive heat out of the building.

You’re essentially wasting heat!

A ground source heat pump, on the other hand, will naturally cool your home—using less energy, saving you money, and emitting zero carbon in the process. With a quick turn of a valve, alternating fluid circulation, your GSHP can be transformed into a highly-efficient cooling system.

Throughout the seasons

The beauty, of course, is that when winter comes along, the system can be reversed back again just as simply, to provide you with 100% natural heating. All the equipment is in place to perfectly control the temperature of your home—whatever the weather!

So, forget about throwing your hard-earned money at a traditional furnace AND an air conditioner. Invest in a system that can do both.
